Tracks

Well, they're not deer tracks as I think most hunters
would like to see right now. They're simply Mourning
Dove tracks. A foursome were scrounging around the deck at my studio and when I approached them a whole flock flew up right in front of me. I don't think I've ever seen that many Mourning Doves together at once. But all I caught on film were the tracks they left behind.

Everyone is gearing up for the start of hunting season on Saturday and with the cold temps and light snow conditions are looking good. The DNR said that this is not a typical year in that there aren't as many around this year. So it may prove to be a bit more challenging.
Good luck and be safe out there.

Pelican Volunteer Fire Dept.

I recently added a new informative Link to the list. It's the site for the Pelican Volunteer Fire Dept. In some cases they may be more informative than the local paper! They have photos of all the incidents they go to as well as information about what makes up the Volunteer Fire Dept. The key word here is volunteer....all these folks give their time to attend to the needs of our township. If you would like to show your appreciation they have a fund drive every year to purchase the equipment they use, which in turn benefits our community. Give the site a visit and learn how you can help out.

New "Gadget" added to the site...

I've added a new gadget to the site so that you can now subscribe to the blog and receive a notice when a new post has been added. You just need to scroll down on the right hand side till you see Posts Subscribe. When you click on that it will give you easy instructions to have the blog come up on your Google Home page. It does give you some alternate choices as well. Then every time you go to your Google Home page you'll be able to see if there is a new posting. I thought this would be a handy way to keep up with what's happening on Lake Thompson and maybe get some more people involved. Please feel free to comment or send me things that you think are worth posting.

Is it Winter Yet?

Looks like it could be! Yes it did snow last Sunday night and we woke up to 2" of the white stuff. It stayed cold so there are still traces of it on the ground. But Thursday should bring the temps back all the way up to the 60's. At least Trick ot Treaters will have pleasant weather.

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Well, the leaves are pretty much off the tress now and the temps have been dipping downward. But the good news is the lake's not frozen yet! But there have been alot of chilly mornings when the lake is perfectly still with a coating of fog.

I wanted to post this certificate we received recognizing our volunteer work with AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) at the landings. A very large pat on the back goes out to our volunteers listed below...

Bob Rossi,Mike Roling,

Mary Oelrich, Tom & Sue Welch, Jim Auchter, Mike & Renee Hodell and kids, Dennis Wittig, and Joel & Kathy Furda

It's been a consensus that many people are becoming aware of this problem and are careful to make sure their boats and trailers are clean. Up until the end of the season we had a clean bill of health, but one of our volunteers did find some Rusty Crayfish, which was identified by the DNR. Therefore we had to place a sign identifying that in our new kiosk. Lets work even harder next year to keep our lake as clean as possible.

Lake Thompson Christmas Party

Just wanted to let everyone know ahead of time when the Christmas Party is scheduled. It will be at Holiday Acres on Dec. 12, 2008. Cocktails at 6:00 and Dinner at 7:00. I think the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry will again be on our Christmas List so be thinking about what you might be able to add to our big food basket. I'll have more later when the dates gets closer.

Finally .....the Kiosk

After a very, very, very............... long wait our kiosk has finally been installed. New signs for AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) as well as other informational material have been posted. There is a box attached to the kiosk so volunteers for AIS duty can have access to informational materials and record keeping supplies. A very huge THANK YOU goes to Bob Rossi who did most of the work to finally get this in place. (the fourth handy man actually came through) Bob's helpers at the landing were Ron Gomorczak, and newest Board member, Mike Rolling.

Sunset on the Lake

Jim Auchter sent me this beautiful shot of the lake at sunset. Thanks Jim , I hope there are more of you out there willing to share some photos, thoughts, ideas and whatever. The big Musky Tournament is coming up soon and we could use some volunteers for the landing. If you can let Bob Rossi know or myself.

This year’s annual summer picnic will take place at Holiday Acres on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 12:30. Please bring your own meat and a dish to share with your neighbors. Beverages and grill will be provided. We’ve been having great weather this summer, with temps in the high 70’s low 80’s and dipping down into the 50’s at night. Perfect for picnics!

I have some news…we have a new website for the Association!
You can find it at:

http://lakethompsonassociation.blogspot.com/

I’ve only posted a couple times until I could send the site to everyone. I’m going to try to always post the Flyers for meetings and events as well as interesting Lake news. So if you have any questions, newsy items worthy of posting, or great photos you’d like to share, send them to me in an email and I will try to post them. You might have to bear with me a little on this as I’m not totally “site savvy” and it may take me awhile to figure things out. So if there were anyone out there who would like to lend his or her expertise, I would gladly welcome it. So check it out and let me know how I’m doing.

Elderberry Time

The Elderberry is out in force right now, it's such a wonderful color of red. If you have any in your yards, have you noticed any Cedar Waxwings? We've had a few, not as many as last summer, I think our June was a little too cool so there aren't quite as many berries. We're still waiting on the kiosk progress, hopefully we'll have some news soon. But many thanks to the workers who have graciously volunteered their services, during a busy time. We even had a Lemonade stand set up by the Hodell kids while their parents were manning their watch. Now that's innovative! Wish I had gotten down there for a picture!

Lake Thompson's First Blog!

Well I didn't think I could do it, but sometimes when it comes to computer stuff you just have to persevere. For our first entry I will post the names of the Board Members as well as our 2 newest members, one of which was voted in officially at last night's Annual Dinner meeting. They are as follows:

Kathy Furda Pres.
John Harwood Vice Pres.
Kari Zambon Sec.
Joan McEnroe Treas.
Bob Rossi
Dennis Wittig
Linda Krebsbach
Mike Rolling

I will post more on the events of the meeting and upcoming projects after I revel for awhile in this small accomplishment! Have a good one!!
