Good morning everyone!

Another great report has made it across my desk, ‘A Fish Habitat Conservation Framework for Minnesota Lakes’.  Simply put this report delves into how shoreline development and watershed disturbances affect both physical structures (aquatic vegetation, woody habitat, substrate) and water quality (clarity, oxygen) in our lakes, thereby affecting fish populations.

For decades, the Oneida County Land & Water Department has worked with lake shore property owners to restore their degraded shorelines.  Within the last two years, we have begun to focus additional attention on the protection and restoration of woody habitat and floating and emergent aquatic vegetation.  It is good to see research that both justifies and guides the work that our department and our volunteers do!
